the prevailing motivation behind republican stalwarts appears to be superficiality. whether rich, poor or middle class, the superficial agendas of “being conservative”, of hating “liberals” and of being wealthy and/or attractive reign supreme.
fly-over republicans can subscribe to such an ideology simply because they don’t care or have concerns about the economy and business practices (they’re poor…), they don’t care about global issues because the world is the street they live on, and they don’t care about social well being simply because they don’t care about the other guy. as long as their team, be it political, athletic, religious, alcoholic or sexual wins, that’s all that matters. they could be benchwarmers for team heterosexual, water boys for team christ or season ticket holders for team budweiser; as long as they’re cheering for the winning team, that makes them winners too.
to be fair, democrat stalwarts are ugly. so republicans are justifiably angry; the democrats pollute their aesthetic sensibilities. ugly democrats also tend to pursue higher education since they don’t ride their family’s fortunes or their looks.
suffice to say that i don’t believe either team ideologies are of value. republicans should not only look deeper into the issues of the day, they should also look inward and examine the hypocritical ideals they hold. and democrats should stop being ugly. maybe then, dems and reps could find enough common ground to come together and throw off the yoke of party politics.
