There’s no denying that the iPod changed the MP3 market. With regarding to OS, AAPL have been making OS for as long as MSFT did. OSX is just their latest attempt to come back and it did the best out of all their other attempts. However, Windows, even with all its flaws still have the strangle hold on the OS market. For work, we have Macbook Pro, but guess what OS we use… Windows XP. Also, in your eyes, you might think OSX is the best UNIX OS out there, but I think Ubuntu is much better. I used OSX for a month or so and can’t stand it. It try to dumb down everything and it annoys the hell out of me. Ubuntu on the other hand can be as dumb as you want it to be, or as tweakable as you want as well.
Like I said, iPhone is doing well in the US but it’s floundering in Asia because feature wise, it’s a light weight. AAPL also doesn’t have the same brand power over there as it does over here, so their product have to sell on their own merit, and it’s not doing well. I associate AAPL to BMW, they’re good, but not nearly as good as their marketing department hyped it up to be.
GOOG and MSFT are never really the first of anything either. So, yes, they all are good, but I don’t buy into the AAPL hype. We’ll see who will win the smart phone market. My bet is on GOOG. iPhone is a great single product, but w/ Android, it can be on MOTO, Sony-Ericsson, LG, Samsung, HTC, etc phones. I doubt iPhone can outsell them all combined.

October 26, 2008 at 12:55 AM #292933jpinpbParticipantI used Mac and PC when I was in school. I can say unequivocably that Mac is waaay more stable than PC.
That said, unfortunately, finances will only allow me to get a PC. The newer the MSFT version, the more trouble. I have an old desktop computer at home that still runs on 95 and I refuse to upgrade. Had a laptop w/Windows XP that up and died. It crashed but not nearly as bad as what I have now. Just went and got a new one w/Vista and I HATE it. I am very close to just getting a Mac. They cost so much, but sanity is very valuable.

October 26, 2008 at 1:08 AM #292938anParticipantSo let me get this straight, you refused to upgrade to XP or even Vista from Windows 95 because of stability? If you’re talking about hardware stability, then that has nothing to do with Windows and MSFT. Majority of instability of Windows is because of drivers written by 3rd party hardware manufacturer. But J6p will never know that. Why do you think AAPL doesn’t just sell their OSX to just anyone, even though the hardware in a MAC is exactly the same as in a Dell or a HP? Of course XP and newer OS won’t be able to run on an old computer that were made around 1995. Can you imagine trying to run OSX (Leopard) on a mac built around 1995? If your laptop died, it has nothing to do w/ MSFT. Blame that on your laptop manufacturer (be it HP or Dell or etc.) I have an IBM 570 Thinkpad that were abused when I was in school and still work right now 10+ years later. I hope you know that different manufacturer use different quality parts (hardware) which will determine the longevity and stability of your computer/laptop. IBM laptops were at the top of the list and HP/Compaq were at the bottom of the list from the big manufacturers.
