Kind of weird to be working from home. I need to order a new machine gonna get a 12 core Ryzen 3900x
It’s not too bad once in a while. I do it sometimes. The dog loves it when I stay home, she’s glued to my side all day.
I wouldn’t want to do it all week every week…I’d get cabin fever and gain 20 lbs.

Back in 2009 the swine flu now called H1N1 was the epidemic virus. It appears every year from then on.
Some reading:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.htmlThe difference is the press response and the resulting public frenzy.
Something to think about.
hmmm…less than two weeks after the first human infection was detected on April 15, 2009, the
1. cdc began working on a vaccine on april 21
2. cdc activated emergency op center on april 22
3. cdc releasing antiviral drug to battle new virus april 26
4. fda approved new cdc test on april 28Perhaps the difference in the press response has a lot to do with how the gov’t/CDC responded to the situations?

I am going out and buying a new larger monitor to make it a little easier to WFH, I think this may end up actually becoming a boom in consumer spending LOL.
People will probably end up buying stuff to keep their kids busy as well.

March 13, 2020 at 3:56 PM #815438HobieParticipantitsdd: keep in mind people were dying from the flu. Not so much re coronavirus. Transmission rates vs. actual mortality are not same. This is my point re press jumping on the ‘pandemic’ phrase and getting everyone panicked running out to by toilet paper and bottled water.
Including all the emails from every company you have ever done business with stating they are using every precaution, bla… bla… Ever see this before??
You may find this interesting:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html#epi-curveThen compare to current flu stats:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm41 Corona deaths vs. 22K-55k flu deaths
So, again is closing schools really necessary? One might argue for flu exposure, but not coronavirus.
And remember, there are no reported coronavirus infections among any students to date.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html#epi-curve%5B/quote%5DI hear you. The media probably helped fanning the panic, but that only worked b/c the gov’t failed miserably on how it managed the situation. That chunk of lard, all he had to do to reassure the people was to just acknowledge the severity of the new virus (nothing new) and let them know that the smartest scientist/doctors are working on a solution and leave it at that. Telling people to not to panic without any substance to back it up is like watching a fire burning down your next door neighbor’s house through your windows and telling your kids not to panic and then just standing there.
This is a false narrative. Imagine what the numbers would be like if the coronavirus was allowed to spread and proliferate freely like the flu is – the chinese didn’t lockdown wuhan and nearby cities, travel bans, aggressive testing/monitoring, quarantines by other countries.
March 13, 2020 at 4:16 PM #815442HobieParticipantI was hoping you were not going to Orange Man bad.
Well then, you said, ” ..Telling people to not to panic without any substance to back it up..”
Here is the offical CDC recommendations on mitigation:
“When a novel virus with pandemic potential emerges, nonpharmaceutical interventions, which will be called community mitigation strategies in this document, often are the most readily available interventions to help slow transmission of the virus in communities.”https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community-mitigation-strategy.pdf
Basically it says: if you are sick, stay home. Wash hands a lot. Don’t be stupid. And it doesn’t say to run to doctor and get a test. Remember most recover from it and don’e die.
Press and Dems complaining lack of test kits, etc. are designed to make orange man look bad. c-mon. You could use the same argument on any new pandemic virus. It’s new and takes some time to sort it out.
Air travel was stopped rather quickly if I recall.

We don’t just let the flu run unabated. We have flu vaccines each year. This is new virus.
Svelt: Do this justify a panic? Closing schools, frantic hording? That is the point– flu is more deadly today vs. coronavirus today.

In other words, you used false statements (“not so much re coronavirus”) to buttress your point.
Whether this is an overreaction or not is yet to be seen.
Let’s see…I have high blood pressure. My chance of dying from coronavirus is 6%. What percent chance of death do you think justifies closing of schools, banning large gatherings? Just curious.
