Uh…my post was in jest.
…and Dr. Strangelove is a comedy.
I agree that Brian is not the main source of the degrading thread problem.
Rich, if you do want feedback, I will say that I don’t visit here much lately, and I don’t recommend the site to friends anymore. The doom-and-gloom extremist clique has pretty-much taken over. It’s pretty obvious who the offenders are. No tattling should be necessary.
Yeah, You hate the doom and gloom so much and what it does to this site, that you had to go dig up a “doom and gloom” post that had not been replied to since November of 2008. Interestingly enough, your doing so made outtamojo’s day.Trying to rub party pup’s nose in something looks bad too.Why not throw in picking a nice fight with her on another thread where she is getting along fine with others. Oh yeah, you did. This is the worst part of it. All this crying foul while instigating “free for alls” is what stinks to me.
Schadenfreude has been a big part of real estate bear culture -myself included. Imo, if you can’t take the nose rubbing, don’t prognosticate and certainly don’t sell your prognostication as if it were some kind of gospel.
Edit: just to be clear, I am not accusing you Russell of these things.

June 23, 2010 at 12:24 PM #569985AnonymousGuestRich,
The signal to noise ratio has gotten worse, but perhaps there is not any more noise, just less signal. There’s just not as much to talk about when it comes to real-estate these days.
My issue with many of the threads is that they are just way too fantastic in their premise. Even ones that start out moderately often go off the deep end. Yeah, I know there is a bearish theme to this site, but the apocalyptic predictions are just silly.
I choose to poke fun at partypup in an attempt to point out just how ridiculous her postings are. They are also just plain repetitive. Go back to posts that are years old, and it’s the same old sh#t. Lots long excerpts from articles with selective text in bold (as if that somehow makes it more relevant). Just more stuff to page through and skip over. And always the same theme: “Obama is going to destroy us all…” Yawn.
(Although, if you read her latest posts, you’ll find some stuff that is approaching violent threats.)
What compounds the problem for this site is that there is a “team” mentality from other posters: “Partypup doesn’t like Obama, I don’t like Obama, therefore I am on her side and must defend her.” (Thanks, Russell, for providing a timely example.) So we end up with pages of extremist crap and meta crap. Too much “us vs. them” and not enough about actual issues and ideas.
So, Rich, the only suggestion I can make is keep to deleting. More liberally, in fact. And if it turns out you delete any or all my posts, I won’t cry foul.
