The Stimulus !

I had a thought today…

Read today that the refund/stimulus checks will be going out in May. My thought was “oh, just in time to pay my credit card bill for the Federal Taxes I’m going to owe this year.” You see, this is the first year in a while where we will owe taxes since we’ve got no mortgage interest to write off. We will earn points on the credit card for the 1K we’re probably going to owe the IRS then lo and behold I’ll magically have a check from the IRS in May to pay my credit card bill never once having to dip into the CD or savings account.

My thought continued along those lines to incorporate other people. How many people out there who are in foreclosure will be in my boat – meaning not having mortgage interest to pay off? If you’ve been in your home long enough to have it foreclosed upon isn’t that at least 6 mos. of non payment? All those people are now going to have to do their taxes (or I guess get an extension) by April 15 but won’t have interest to write off causing them to owe big bucks to the IRS which they will pay with their credit cards since if they are in foreclosure I’m pretty sure they don’t have a grand laying around. Along comes the 1200.00 Stimulus money and out it goes again to pay off the IRS bill on the credit card.

Was this their plan all along….give out the money just so the country would be able to pay their taxes? It’s as if the money is leaving the IRS and going right back in…

I know, I know, the percentage of people in foreclosure in nearly 0 in comparison to the grand scale of the population but 200,000 foreclosures times the 1200.00 each family gets is 240 mil not buying flat screen tv’s or paying down old credit card debt.

Guess I’m just irked that my $1200.00 is going right back to the IRS….I wanted to hoard my cash…

2. They're going to walk away on their financial obligations, which will allow them to free up more money for their living.

3. On top of that, the government is generously giving $1200 to people to spend, when it clearly doesn't have this money to give out.

4. Meanwhile the rest of the folks in america have been fiscally responsible and our next generations to come are going to be paying for this expense down the road

5. Now people from this group are going to complain they don't get a tax credit or writeoff when they do their taxes….

As foreclosures are happening and the economy is slowing there is LESS federal tax revenue coming in, not more. The micro picture that those with foreclosures will owe more taxes is far outweighed on a net basis by the macro picture which indicates that less economic activity equals lower revenue.

I am also irked about “my” $1800 “rebate”. In my case instead of them sending it to me and having me send it back, it will not even be issued.
