Matt, there is a reason you aren’t as popular as I, no need for me to point it out but since you took me on point by point I will respond. For being nearly a two decade Temeculan it suprises me how unhappy you are here, how much signs of wealth or cosmetically enhanced women bother you, I say bring it on. We have a few years, one of us will be right, but for now we can agree to disagree.
Abbot is not the largest employer, Pechanga is, in fact it is the largest in the County, zero apartments within walking distance of it.
Lets see..spanish speakers, check the demographics on the state school website, other than the two elem schools near apartments on Solano and in Old Town, it’s a negligible amount, look at Redhawk Elem, Jackson, Pauba, Tobin or any of the other schools in the 40k plus population South Temecula that has one apartment building which is high end anyway and still not walkable to a grocery store. Those schools have scores, english language learner and free lunch numbers comparable to Poway and San Digueto districts.
Did I design the city? No. But I have employed “live in” maids over the years and there was no way to get them to their family or to services so that is where that “data” is from. While city transit services have improved, a mile walk to a store is not like you will find in Escondido. Have you been on Ash Street in Esco, name one area of Temecula where you will not find a blond kid in the school, visit Escondido, please.
Truth is, the town you loved isn’t as small as you remember anymore and for that you hate it. We have been here the same amount of time and it hasn’t bothered me to see growth and change, it’s different, not better or worse but different, the crime increased slightly but is still ranks amongst any suburb and has more officers per resident than any town in San Diego County with the exception of Carlsbad (which it is tied with).
You want a hangover of the excess that came from S.D and O.C., but it will be saved by it’s charm as not being as bad as other areas. We travel in different circles, but I assure you there are plenty of people like myself, people that earn six figure salaries and don’t commute or pay for gas, for that reason and that reason alone it will survive, with or without you, but it will not turn into the crime ridden area you yearn for. Seriously, you can get a golf course view for 300k now, how bad do you think it will get? I’ve been drinking, as is common on weekends so I will end my rant, but tomorrow, work permitting I’ll reread these points and counter each and every one. While I’m away, name the cheap apartments near S. 79 that you can walk to a grocery store. They don’t exist. I hope you have a chunk of change stored away matt, this correction isn’t going to last forever, you have a year, maybe two and then you will be priced out forever, that’s not me being bullish, that’s the cold reality. After that it is “welcome to hemet.”
You want proof of the importation of the elderly to satisfy low income housing, you are invited to go to church and have breakfast with my grandmother and I, who lives in city owned elderly housing that I learned of from the city who was desperate to keep it’s federal road tax money and needed the elderly who lived on social security. they also dropped a few million on the senior center, one of the reasons she would never accept my offer to live rent free at my place beacuse there is so much to do in her neck of the woods.
I haven’t bought back in, i think there is another 10% or more to go, but if you need 20 cents on the dollar to buy a house, good luck with that.
Your quality of life may have decreased, mine has gone up, I wanted a mall, restaraunts, stuff to do, cosmetically enhanced women to leer at and if the 22’s bother you, get 23’s.
These latest numbers will seperate the reverse flippers from the posers, waiting hawk was a prime example of someone who waited for their time. South Temecula has reached $100 a square, for me, my dream house is two years pay, that is just silly by any mathematical formula, if and when San Diegans can buy a nice house with good schools for two years pay, this site will be a piece of history and I firmly believe that day will come.

June 16, 2008 at 9:44 AM #223055hipmattParticipantYou go to church with your grandmother, yet you drink like a sailor, and lust after plastic women that resemble porn stars, and you worship worldly material items.. what an ironic contradiction.
If a mall and pechanga casino make you happy, that is unfortunate. There are many more productive ways to spend free time. I can see how my post came across as negative, but no where in it do I “yearn” for crime, or expect .20 on the dollar. That is just plain insulting.
BTW apartments on La Paz are quite close to pechanag, definitely within walking distance, unless you have been drinking to much and eating too much fried chinese food, then I suggest getting off your ass and working out. Most of the apartments are closer to important amenities, not a lousy casino, and there are plenty and they are walkable to important places.
TG, I still like Temecula, I play devils advocate a lot, but I honestly feel there is more pain to come. I still don’t hear much evidence to support otherwise that isn’t speculative and emotional. Remember we have over 4 years of inventory, and rates are only going to rise… How are all of these people going to buy up all of these homes… working at Pechana…, Big 5…maybe they could sell cars at Paradise Chevy..
BTW, you are wrong again about Abbot…
it is the largest employer…

“Abbott is the largest employer within the Temecula city limits, and many of the tasks are skilled positions that pay more than the average factory worker.”I am happy here, I am openly disappointed as to the direction things have gone. I’m not some cocky bad ass who brags about my six figure income, who posts as if I am the know it all encyclopedia of Temecula, and how quick I can pay off my house. I agree to disagree, but if you continue spewing false info, I will call you out.

June 16, 2008 at 10:42 AM #223121dharmagirlParticipantHey HipMatt,
Maybe you were like me this weekend and spent too much time at the Fair. I love the SD County Fair, but DESPISE the stroller mafia (having a stroller is not a Cut-someone-off-in-line-for-free card, nor does it make it OK to roll over feet and be generally rude and thoughtless), the idiots walking around, not paying attention and yakking on their cells, etc.
Or, like me, maybe you were trying to drive 60 mph on I-15 with rude motorists honking at you and flipping the bird. I just start clapping or laugh at them when they do this. Does anyone else look at the idiots doing 90 mph on 15 and feel as amazed as I do?
Well, whatever it was, you did sound a wee bit crabby, Matt.
Based upon my observations, what I see in Temecula is a group of educated and informed people working hard to steer the city in the right direction. As I’ve said before, I’ve met countless people who are committed to the area, involved and proud of this area. Some of my friends down south poke fun of Temecula, but much of housing in popular areas of San Diego is just as densely packed as some areas of Temecula.
So, I prefer to say that in 20 years Temecula may be the next Pt Loma. Have you ever driven down Sports Arena Blvd or Rosencranz? Areas within the beach communities look just as bad – if not worse – than Esco, have just as much “diversity”, dated architecture, dense rentals, strip clubs, tacky retail, bars and crime.
Whenever I stay at my best friend’s house on Sunset Cliffs (Pt Loma), I cant help but admire the sweeping ocean views, architecture, etc. However, I RARELY get a good’s night sleep when I stay with her because of the rowdiness on the cliffs, partying South American neighbors nearby (they celebrate something every, single weekend), and rumbling street traffic. She’s also had two major thefts from her garage, which was left open for less than 5 minutes. Cops said it was probably meth addicts who comb the neighborhood for ‘easy targets.’
She’s also been assaulted by a homeless person while on an early morning walk.
I can happily say that none of this has happened to me or anyone else I know in Temecula. Pt Loma was once a quiet, laid back little beach community. It changed. Everything changes. It’s still lovely, but it’s not perfect. As much a I love the beach, I dont know if I could live there because of the noise.
The only thing you can really count on is change, dude. Temecula will continue to change and evolve just as San CV, SV and Cbad, etc. have changed. You either have to embrace change or move to Warner Springs. Or stop complaining and do something to make a difference in your community.
