Progressive means that you pay back to society in the same proportion that you get out of society.
If a group earns 50% of GPD, it should pay 50% of the taxes.
A progressive tax system should also consider wealth. Taxes should also be proportional to wealth because society protects that wealth and gives it value.

The Tea Party is sooooooo credible.
And actually, it’s the truth. Race is a big part of what’s happening with the GOP these days. It’s an articulated political strategy.
But back to the tax code discussion…
As a percentage of income / wealth gains, did you pay more or less tax than last year?
Do you support looking at VAT?
I don’t know if VAT is the answer. I’m pleased their looking at it.[/quote]
Percentage-wise, I pay more taxes now than before this economic trainwreck, because I work a lot more, and as result make more now than I did entering this economic train wreck. I did this, to protect myself from this economic train wreck, without any funny money/bailout/stimulas/pork from the Fed, though I’m sure a portion of it went to other people’s pork…And at this rate, I could use extra help…But, finding someone abroad instead of the U.S. is looking more and more tempting these days….

Does anyone have a similar graph for the non-wealthiest Americans? It would be interesting to see how they compare.
