[quote=XBoxBoy] . . . Having said that, from what I know, LJHS is currently underenrolled so it’s unlikely that this border area will be kicked out of the LJHS district any time soon. But you never know.

Yeah, this was my thinking, too, XBoxBoy. I think since the recent RE “bubble,” that LJ SFR’s became too expensive for families to purchase and thus its current homeowner base currently primarily consists of older adults and seniors, whose kids and grandkids are long gone. Back when there were more kids living in LJ (=>15 years ago – enough to fill LJ High and also allow the required percentage of magnet and/or VEEP enrollments in) the resident-HS students in the northern annexation were required to attend their home school of UC High. The current “Optional Enrollment” program is open in Scarlett’s area of interest ONLY because LJ High is currently underenrolled. This could change if the required magnet/VEEP percentage for LJHS is increased or more HS age children moved into the “guaranteed” attendance area in the future.
But I am not the “horse’s mouth” on this issue, whom Scarlett should speak to. Her situation, IIRC, is that her children are VERY young and would not be attending HS for perhaps 8-10 years. Thus, she can’t enroll them in HS until the spring before they begin their 9th grade year.

September 14, 2010 at 12:40 AM #604419ben_voParticipantI’ve been to Southpointe several times and have seen a few types of condos there (as well as in a number of other areas in La Jolla). Overall it is not bad for the price and it is definitely much better than Eastbluff. One thing I agree with is that it is a little dense and not private. I would not be concerned about the size. However, I personally do not like a three level set up (if this is the case here). In terms of the schools, I know for sure that the elementary school is Torrey Pines Elementary (as the son of a friend of mine who lives on Mallorca goes to that school). I am not sure about the middle and high schools.
One complex you could consider more optimal is La Jolla Shores Heights (right on the other side of Gilman Dr). It is probably somewhat more expensive but it is almost a walking distance to the elementary school, UCSD, and the beach. It is also a less dense place and more private. They have two-family units (compared to multi-family units in Southpointe). I am not sure if there is anything currently on sale there though.

September 14, 2010 at 6:13 AM #604459ScarlettParticipantWould you be concerned about the occupancy rate for resale value?
Being close to 50%, chances are more owners would move out and rent or sell to investors. True, they could also sell to people who want to live there. But being a condo, rental is a more likely scenario isn’t it.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions!
