I think it is the uphill part that would require a pump…to get the water out of the lake, up and over the dam…then it would be downhill.

My hope is this Oroville situation will generate a new interest in new dam construction for the entire aquaduct/flood control system. Long overdue.
Water level is now low enough that all should be okay through this weekend’s rain.
The big question is what the state does long term…I hope lots of work is done to both spillways.
I’ve often heard said that folks think a disaster can’t be repeated after 7 years have passed. I bet that period is much shorter for near disasters…
I’ve always wondered how the roads would handle an emergency evacuation for a wide area. The earlier floods were due to levee failures so the evacuation covered much fewer people.
Looks like the government is now aware they are going to have to do something much better to prepare for an Oroville Dam failure…
