I live in an association and the monthly dues were supposed to come down after the build out was complete and that never happened. It has consistently been raised. I would not expect the dues to decrease and unless you can get it in writing, I would not believe that sales pitch. I am sure it is a nice place to live and for the most part associations serve a valuable purpose.

February 28, 2010 at 12:27 PM #519074HobieParticipantI heard the same sales pitch in a different development. “Assessments will go down in a couple of years after the reserves have accumulated.” Didn’t happen. CC&R’s state up to 2% increase without voting. And that’s just what they did. Gotta watch the management company and the vendors.
Since there is no pool, I’m guessing the $300/mo is for landscaping ( private roads?). This never goes down in cost. As the plants mature, it takes more man hours to maintain. Not to mention the increasing cost of water.

February 28, 2010 at 12:46 PM #519084sdrealtorParticipantI heard the same pitch when I bought my house. The assessments came down at build out. Since then have increased less than $20/month over the last 7 years and more often than not they havent changed from year to year. It all depends.
