If you do not like the schools, then send them to a private school.
Let’s say 2 kids, 12 years, 15k/year/kid (mid-range private school). Comes up to $360k.
If they were at least reasonably priced (4br’s in 500k range), it would be an option. But they are asking as much as 4S Ranch!!! 4br’s “from the low $700,000” (Crestview plan #3), 4br’s on 10k sqft lots “from the low $800,000” (Stoneridge). Granted there are no Mello-roos but would you rather pay $50k over 12 years in Mello-roos and send your kids to a good public school, or $360k over 12 years for a private school?

March 24, 2008 at 6:35 PM #176110AecetiaParticipantIt depends on the private school. You can invest in your house or invest in your child. You could also rent in an area with great schools and wait for the prices to fall to where you can afford a house. There are many options in this market.
