I can see a future where GOP controls the presidency and Dem.s control the house. Dems will refuse to fund govt. until president agrees to total gun control.
I have always thought the democrats play too nice.
Even with obamacare, Obama played too nice. he let the debate go on and on.
At that time, the democrats could have rammed everything through.I like FDR.
October 2, 2013 at 11:23 AM #766062FlyerInHiGuestI think the Republicans are running out of options. They’ve used the nuclear option. If they don’t win this one, they are done.
Democrats need to think careful before they give an inch.

The bottom line being the media and analysts are lying when they say not raising the debt ceiling means a default. No, it just means there’s an immediate and large cut to government spending.
It also means a severe recession. A spike in unemployment. Probably a depression.
No disagreement on that point. That is very true. The question is don’t we up up there eventually anyways. How big can the total debt get along with changes in the interest rate before you are actually facing default because you don’t have enough money to keep essential government functions going along with paying the interest on the debt.
October 2, 2013 at 2:15 PM #766071FlyerInHiGuestOn Obamacare, haterz are gonna hate.
Obama failed to understand that. He compromised on ACA. Back then, the democrats should have rammed through a much better bill with a public option. The ensuing hatred would have been the same.
Obama keeps on giving in and getting nothing in return. Weak.

Obama keeps on giving in and getting nothing in return. Weak. And weakness begets more brinksmanship from the other side.
October 2, 2013 at 2:18 PM #766070FlyerInHiGuestLivin, Is the debt really a clear and present danger that the Republicans make it to be?
Japan’s debt to GDP will be 230% of GDP and and rates are still low.
Even if we were the republicans some benefit of the doubt, are their actions commensurate with the perceived problems?
October 2, 2013 at 2:22 PM #766073spdrunParticipantFlyerInHI – we actually agree on this one 🙂 I actually think there would have been LESS hatred for a public option, since it would have been an expanded public service (there’s precedent for that) rather than being forced to buy a product from one of the more corrupt private industries that exists today.

Democrats never had 60 votes for the public option (see under Ben Nelson for more).
October 2, 2013 at 3:00 PM #766076FlyerInHiGuestI don’t remember how the votes on Obamacare went. I just remember that congress debated forever.
In the end, no matter what was passed, the haterz are gonna hate.

October 2, 2013 at 4:02 PM #766079flyerParticipantNone of the current players in DC impress me, and, IMO, regardless of who “wins” or “loses” these battles, as a Country, we’re going to lose the war–if and when the economy collapses. At that point, healthcare, and everything else they find to argue about will become moot points.
Trying to insulate myself and my loved ones from the effects of the insanity to the best of my ability is what I really care about.

“But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it….” Nancy Pelosi speaker of the House 2010
Maybe a real debate and real discussion instead of a ram rod ‘we won’ stuff it attitude of the first two year which is now the permanent attitude of both sides.
October 2, 2013 at 4:46 PM #766083FlyerInHiGuestI believe there are enough votes in the house to get a CR to pass. Will boehner bring such a bill to a vote?
At this point it’s the tea party holding the country hostage.
