Hey TheBreeze…
I don’t disagree with you…
I am also worried about what I will be feeling when we are snowbound for a few months at a time. I don’t mind the cold actually – As long as I dress for it and have the conveniences to go with it.
I’m not an idiot – I tend to coop my self up in houses anyway (spend most time indoors even in San Diego a few blocks from the beach). To each his own. That being said – we are here to spend the next 7 years getting our kids through school, it’s not a life commitment!
We plan on getting a condo in…. Guess where…. Wait for it…. SAN DIEGO! We will spend some of the vacation time and winters there (as much as the kids school time will permit) And also – mostly the summers there! I agree – when it’s summer time, I want to be where its dry and nice – and San Diego is that. When it’s winter in San Diego, it’s not exactly the Caribbean! It’s chilly and most of the houses are not exactly set up for the weather. It’s not cold enough to really be set up for weather, unlike a great house in the Midwest.
I love the environment here and have enjoyed visiting a dozen or so times (including a couple of weeks at a time looking for houses in the dead middle of the winter). My kids are already happy here and we will see what the future brings. I love the new house and a living situation which isn’t a complete brutal rip off to be able to say “wow look how nice and sunny it is outside!”. I also don’t like to settle and I won’t live in a $1M house which is built like crap, way too small, and / or has other things wrong with it. I am hoping that my $1M in Madison will give me the kind of enviroment which is lacking in SD without 3M$!!!
I’ll let the forum know if we survive! I’m not sure myself but life is an adventure and we are going for it!!!

June 8, 2008 at 7:50 PM #219667AnonymousGuestI don’t know, I used to think San Diego with that nice weather was a great place to live, and I’m sure it is for some. It seems I’ve gotten used to the Temecula Valley though because I really like living here and wouldn’t trade it for San Diego. Ocean breezes and being near the beach don’t matter to me anymore. I’ve grown used to the dry climate here, I like it, and I like the newness of my city. There are a lot of rundown, ghetto-looking areas in San Diego, and I wouldn’t want to have to drive through them. The house prices just aren’t worth it to me. I’ll pay less to live here in Temecula where I like.
In Temecula, very convenient location. Right smack dab in the middle of San Diego and LA.

June 8, 2008 at 9:54 PM #219791jpinpbParticipantcyphire – I remember the thread you talked about buying a place in Madison. The house sounded great. I hear so many good things about Madison. I admit being a wuss and I couldn’t endure winters there, but one of my best friends went to school there and loved it. His family lives in Rice Lake. Eat lots of berries for me this summer. I hear they grow wild up there. One of my other friends lives here from Wisconsin. Some of the nicest people I know are from there.
