I sent you a private message. You can check them on the left hand column, under “Messages”
February 26, 2017 at 10:22 AM #805755happytravelerParticipantJust wonder…..what is going on with this site?? someone just asked me on my other post, what color is my skin? That was their response to my inquiry!!
I am white! But, why am I getting this kind of response from an innocent post, trying to get some help here?? I am thinking of deleting my account on this.thank you so much for any insight. Also, any other suggestions for help with this?
February 27, 2017 at 7:11 AM #805769flyerParticipantUnderstand why you would be seeking info wrt your move.
I’d rather not give personal recommendations, but I can tell you we’ve really enjoyed living in RSF for many years, and I would suggest you take a look at sdlookup.com and enter the 92067 zip code to get an idea of what’s available. LJ and DM are great too, but RSF has much more open space, privacy and golf options.
Wrt CC’s–here are some in the area you might want to check out:
rsfgolfclub.com
thebridgesrsf.com
thefarmsgolfclub.com
bayclubs.com/fairbanksranch
delmarcountryclub.com (in RSF)Good luck!

Many thanks for your response. I have private messaged you if you don’t mind.February 28, 2017 at 4:45 PM #805780flyerParticipantGlad to try to help, but I really don’t want to give specific advice wrt the choices you are considering, since this is such a huge decision. I’ve even been reluctant to advise friends we have known for years who have moved into the area, because, in the final analysis, only the people involved really know what will best work for them.
That said, I think spending time with your realtor in all of your areas of interest, as well as touring the CC’s should give you a great deal of insight, and will help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
Edit: Just a couple of other thoughts.
You have some very valid concerns and questions, and your realtor should be able to answer each and every question you have, or be able to refer you to someone who can. If not, I would seriously consider interviewing other realtors who specialize in RSF, because a good agent will get you all of the answers you need in order to make your decision. Also, be sure to take a look at Fairbanks Ranch.

As for investment purposes, annual costs will be higher in RSF and it seems like the mid to high range there can take 6-12 months to sell, adding a major cost.
I love landscaping now, both doing some of it myself and supervising others. But I am in my 30’s and dealing with much smaller lots. 5 acres in my late 60’s sounds like a continuous chore. My grandmother has too much stress maintaining her 2500sf house on 1/4 acre despite family help, and I know she gets gauged on some maintenance tasks.
March 1, 2017 at 5:31 AM #805785flyerParticipantThe points you raise are valid, and, hopefully, the OP will take those issues into consideration.
Living in RSF is definitely a choice that comes with a few caveats, even when you’re younger, but most people who buy here are well-prepared to deal with them in order to enjoy their preferred lifestyle.
We live in Malibu about 50% of the time now, but since we got such a great steal on the house in RSF 20+ years ago when we were in our 30’s, we really enjoyed raising our kids there, and it will always be home base, so I completely understand why the OP is exploring this option in retirement.

If i were 65 and was in the financial position to contemplate which private golf club to belong to, the least think i would be worrying about is the affordability of a house in RSF or thinking about a RSF house as being an investment and trying to maximize my return on investment on it……If I was in the financial state at that level, I wouldn’t want to settle for anything less. Afterall, I would already be 65, and I might as well enjoy my life with what I want.
March 7, 2017 at 5:56 AM #805872EconProfParticipantTake a look at Santaluz, just east of RSF. A gated community with prices $1.3 to over $5 million. It is about one square mile in size, about 800 newer homes, and low density with lots of open space.
