ParticipantDepends on the agreement the broker and agent have in place. More experienced agents that bring in alot of business get a bigger cut.

Participantcan you give an estimated range?
10%/90%, 25%/75%, 50%/50%, 75%/25%, 90%/10%?

Participant40% for a new agent to 80% for big producer. Independent brokers get to keep it all. Those are good ranges to go by? Also your split is based upon the prior year so if you have a bad year you usually get less the next year and vice versa. As your production rises your split can increase at thresholds through the year

ParticipantThank you.
It confirms that the agent we are working with almost certainly makes more than we do. (Which is what we thought all along.) Well, good for her!

Are you surprised? Realtor’s made tons of money on the way up, and plenty on the way down.
With the exception of the banks, realtor’s came out on top as usual – even in the midst of a housing collapse.
The “system” is rigged from top to bottom with a goal of sucking as much money from the masses as possible.

GuestDon’t forget the six-digit payments that every realtor gets as part of their government subsidy.

really scaredy?
what makes some engineers better then others?
what makes some accountants better then others?
what makes some women better then others?
what makes some policemen better then others?
come on now… it is a combination of dedication, work ethic, skill, intelligence… being a successful realtor is not any different then being successful in any profession that anybody here works in…

You promised you were not going to tell anyone about that…

ParticipantI don’t believe. Plenty of smart people work hard. I remember in Albuquerque in the 90s there was one realtor who was top dog can’t remember her name. Head and shoulders successful above others… What made her the wealthiest, biggest and best? Is it some ability to control people? Or is it just skill and work?

ParticipantIf any of you folks are in the legal profession, please don’t even get me started on how much overpaid anyone else is…
My encounters with my a previous attorney was nothing but *interesting*…
Some interesting tidbits from my itemized bills..
$75/hr for photocopying by a paralegal???? Are you fvcking kidding me…$175 for answering an email that took 15 minutes???
WTF???? WTF????
But nothing tops that off then calling a plumber or appliance repair person…Last time I made the mistake of calling sears because my fridge (stupid kenmore) broke down. Repairman says MINIMUM TRIP charge is $150, and then $100 PER HOUR for dianoses (with a minimum $100 charge). I ended saying no thank you since it was an old fridge It ended up being a $20 switch I bought from repairclinic.com…..Or how about the time my dad called because his garage door was stuck…The garage door technician minimum repair charge was $150 to come out, and then another $75/hr for any repair work….Screw it I say, costco sells a brand new garage door opener for $300 with a 2 year return policy….
WTF???? WTF????
And let’s talk about traffic tickets that the fuzz loves to write…Carpool lane violaton tickets use to be $270 (10 years ago). They’re over $400 now…Well, I guess we have to meet the pension shortfalls somehow..
WTF???? WTF????
Contrast that with technology… Today you can get a kick ass computer for around $1000 in today’s dollars. 10 years ago, it would have cost you $4000 and you would have gotten 1/100th of the processing power…
I wish I could charge folks $10 per line of code, and then another $10 for every bug I find in each line a code, and then $10 for each bug I created that I subsequently fixed.…..So no, I don’t think realtors are overpaid. I can think of several other professions that are…And I can think of people in technology being completely stupid…But realtors aren’t overpaid… I guess that’s why a lot of enginerds end up doubling up in real estate. Because while they initially think that might be smarter than others, sooner or later they realize that they’re the dumbest people around when it comes to making money.
But you know what, this does inspire me to post a poll.

Participantscaredy I would encourage you to google and learn about ebby halliday. Don’t just wiki her, try to get a little more in depth.
The bottom line to me is that with the exception of professions steeped in nepotism such as acting or politics, excelling in all professions is based on the individual. Yes there will always be outliers who were successful for luck or being in the right place at the right time, however on the average it is based on the person.
Also the quality of the individual in the profession is not always determined by wealth. For instance I know of plenty of very wealthy quillionaires and brillianaires, (engineers who happened to be at qualcomm and broadcom at the right time with lots of options) and they have lots of money. However plenty of them pale with regards to knowledge in the expertise they are in to peers at other companies who are not wealthy.
With regards to RE, Take Battiata for example. He is pretty damn successful. Does great volume. Now I may not agree with how he runs his shop but I will be the first one to say he is making great money and gets tons of listings. How did he get this way scaredy? He didn’t just fall into it. He worked his ass off, did a great job advertising, and spent countless hours year over year building himself up. Obviously he is good at what he does but it didn’t happen by circumstance or luck.
He made himself what he was. This is generally true for most professions.

ParticipantI tend to think that great success generally depends on minimum levels of brains and hard work, which may be high but hinges on one ability.
Inspires confidence.
A lot of smart Hardworking people can’t do that.
Lots of sociopaths And bipolarites can.
