I took Asian American history in college so I know a lot about the Asians.
Not all Asians are the same.
Indians: The majority of the Indians in the US are a highly selected group of the upper caste people who came here to study and most end up with Phd and Master degrees. Hence the high income. If you are an Indian of lower castes as most Indians are, you never dream of coming here.
Vietnamese: Many of the Vietnamese here are boat people. It is a mixed of Professionals, fishermen, and veterans of the South Vietnamese government. Most don’t speak English and came here broke. So the Vietnamese have lower income.
Taiwanese/Hongkongers are similar to the Indians. The only difference is that Hongkong and Taiwan have populations that are relatively wealthy and educated.
Cambodians/Laotians: Poorest of the Asians. Low education. Many of them came here directly from the rural areas.

Cambodians are the second poorest significant ethnic group in the United States, the only group that is worse off is the Hmong.
