What’s the chance that one day you will be asked to pay your “fair share” of tax on your Roth withdrawal if it reaches a certain threshold?
That’s why I don’t waste time with a Roth anymore. I’ll take the guaranteed tax advantage now. It will be easy to attack the 10% of the population that benefits from a Roth in the future. Just like it’s easy to say tax the rich.
I think the more likely scenario they’ll find indirect ways to tax the money (not necessarily you more)…Specifically when it comes to estate taxes.
For example, they might screw around with estate taxes and have special taxes on these supposedly tax free accounts upon death….
Then, on top of that, they might have new rules that require you to distribute all of your traditional 401k/IRA before Roth IRA/401k…That way, that increases then changes that you won’t tap your Roth accounts before you die (making your heirs pay for the new extate taxes specifically on Roth accounts).
And the other interesting thing to note is that this again would be another way to screw upper middle class and not necessarily the real rich…Because really rich people have such a small percentage in on Roth account, that it wouldn’t really matter, versus your more upper middle income wage slave that saved everything into a IRA account.
Trust me…It will happen….For all you folks clamoring that “rich people” should pay more estate taxes…Guess what, you’re the first ones to get hit…Because real rich people have much more tools at their disposal to shelter from estate taxes.
