FLU, those helicopters are not patrol. Its been an annoyance for years but they don’t fly after dark so it isn’t bad. The military crosses the canyon heading to miramar. Sometimes you’ll see formations fo 6-10 choppers just cruising. The jets are loud too but you can hear the jets in a 20 mile radius so it isn’t that bad. Sometimes Lindburgh Field routes planes over CV when its foggy so that is annoying, sometimes you feel the plane is going to land on your home.
As for the gangs and robberies. Well that’s what happens. Theives don’t steal from the poor areas because there’s nothing there, they steal from the richer areas because they know they can snag a couple Louis Vuittons, maybe 5 plasmas per home etc…

April 16, 2008 at 7:14 AM #188173zkParticipant“What’s the deal with CV? Let me explain it to you – I5N and I15N at 5:30 pm on any given day, nuf said.”
Well, not quite nuf.
If CV was worth 20% more than another area before, it should be worth 20% more now. Traffic hasn’t changed that much. And an extra buck a gallon for gas doesn’t add up to enough to change the equation that much. And all the other stuff listed is also the same as it was a few years ago. As prices in the higher end areas continue to fall (later in the cycle than the other areas, as usual), CV should fall with them. The greater price difference than the historical one between CV and other areas is temporary. The market will sort it out in the long run as people refuse to pay more for a CV premium than it’s worth.

April 16, 2008 at 9:11 AM #188233AnonymousGuestThe difference between now and “before” is that CV has become a more viable community with services within walking distance of most homes. Compare Portico, where you have to get on the 56 or drive all the way down the Heights to buy some groceries. And as for driving, it’s not the cost of gas. Most people buying V8 Benze,s Bimmers, and Lexuses are not going to feel an extra few hundred bucks a year. It’s the time. What’s your time worth if you want daylight for you after-work run/bike/walk or volunteer at your kid’s school, etc? The 5N is bumper-to-bumper just past the 56, sometimes just before, but 80 miles per hr all the way to the bypass. From what I here, it’s easily another hour from the junction to anything comparable in Carlsbad.
As for CVfangirl – I think you misinterpreted my comments. I fully support the diversity of the community. I was responding to the first comment, which I found out of line. And I do hope my “whiteness” as you put it, rubs off on your kids, whatever they are, since that is the whole idea of multiculturalism – each takes away something from the other. Trust me, I know, I’m Canadian – we mastered multiculturalism (live and let live) and strong beer, unlike the USA – which stills holds on to this “melting pot” idea (you’re not American unless you watch football) and Pabst Blue Ribbon (who buys that crap, white trash?)
And yes reference to “they” and “those people” is completely appropriate in a the multicultural mosaic context. There are differences, which are recognizable, and celebrated. Get off your PC high-horse.
