I should also add that we received an email this morning from NY alerting all divisions to the rising tide of bankruptcy among vendors in the entertainment industry: graphics houses, payroll companies, production companies, equipment rental houses…you name it.
This is so mind-numbing that I struggle to even comprehend what’s happening.
And I’ve been preparing for 3 years.
What the hell is going on in the minds of people who did not even see this coming?
And Allan: how much longer do you think this site is going to focus on real estate? When are people going to stop trying to call a “bottom” in housing and realize that we have problems that are SO much bigger than trying to game the market and find distressed properties and the best interest rate for a jumbo in a bedroom community?
We are literally staring into the jaws of Armageddon.
I’m so very frightened…

February 27, 2009 at 6:48 PM #356761Allan from FallbrookParticipantPartypup: This has never been solely about housing. Housing was simply one asset class that was part of a much, much larger bubble. We’ve been playing fast and loose for 30 years now and the bill just came due.
A friend of mine that’s with NATO in Brussels was telling me about massive demonstrations in Paris, and unrest in Spain, Greece and Italy. This isn’t confined to the US and it looks like it’s just beginning.
You’re right to be scared. This shit is terrifying. I work in blast resistance and mitigation for oil/gas companies and the US Government (anti-terrorism and Force Protection). Sad to say, business has never been better and it looks to get better still.
I remember working with a SFC in 5th Special Forces who had a business card that read: “Our business is killing and business is good”.
