Also consider the potential for them to hit you up for “special assessments.” This is one of the main reasons we will not buy a condo. Your expenses are no more “fixed” than if you rented. HOAs can go up, sometimes drastically, and those special assessments can kill you financially.

It does leave something to be desired but I have found that my Otay san diego condo rentals have been a great investment. People are willing to fork out a lot of cash to rent out there.
