Try the $2 and $100 wines side by side and tell me if you can tell the difference, or if the difference is worth $98.
Yes, I can.
The difference between a $20 wine and a $100 wine is much more subtle than the difference between a $2 wine and a $20 bottle. That’s why I typically buy midpriced wine and stay away from both the high end and the low end.

Participant
I got a bottle of Chardonnay for $2 at Stater Brothers the other day. You read it right–$2 bucks. On one hand it shows you how cheap I am :); on the other hand, I’m simply no wine snob and am blessed with a nondiscriminating palate. I think we’re the most manipulated generations of human history and the quality difference in wines is mostly marketing.

This is the reason I started the thread. I used to think they were all pretty much the same until I tried a couple of the recommendations on the old wine thread. I was pleasantly surprised, but I don’t want to have to try a bunch of $20 wines to find a couple I like when there are folks here who know what their talking about.

Participant
Temecula is a fun day trip but the wines are very expensive for what you get whihc is no better than fair quality. You can get much and I mean MUCH better wines for less. Save the gas money and start spending Saturday’s at SD Wine Company. You wallet and your palette will thank you.
SD Wine Company sounds great. If I did the Temecula thing, it would be for fun. Has anybody been to the Orphilia or Ophilia (something like that) place on the way up to Julian? I’ve been tempted to stop a couple times.
