Russia has already gone after Biden aggressively, likely hacking into Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company whose connection to Hunter Biden has been the focus of conspiratorial narrative by Trump and his allies. Moscow’s disinformation efforts in support of Sanders once again focused on Iowa, whose caucus earlier this month was beset by technical difficulties (which, to be clear, have not been connected to foreign hacking).
“We saw Russia amplifying conspiracy theories suggesting that delays in reporting returns were part of an effort to deny Senator Sanders a clear win,” says Jessica Brandt, head of policy and research for the Alliance for Securing Democracy, a bipartisan nonprofit that tracks and counteracts Russian disinformation. “We also saw them highlighting theories purporting murky ties between other candidates and the company that created the caucus app.”
That’s not to say the activity tracked by ASD is what led directly to the intel briefings being reported on this week. In fact, it seems unlikely: Sanders told The New York Times Friday that he was briefed a month ago, which would be before the Iowa fallout. But it does speak to what experts say is Russia’s ultimate goal, which is less about Sanders and more about promoting chaos. The point has always been to find democracy’s loose seams, and pull.
February 22, 2020 at 10:22 AM #814881FlyerInHiGuestDespite $400 million in ads, Bloomberg has not gained traction. His dream scenario, where a rising Sanders and a declining Biden would call for “centrist hero” to save the day, has come about…. but that “hero” ain’t Bloomberg. Maybe Democrats don’t need a hero and they want to nominate whoever they wish.
February 22, 2020 at 1:02 PM #814880FlyerInHiGuestAnd no consequences to Russia at all. Remember Trump is President and controls the levels of American power.
Russia has been made great again under Trump:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/02/21/why-russians-still-prefer-trump/Come to think of it, maybe the powers that be are saying Russia is helping Sanders in order to stop his momentum before he becomes unbeatable.
But Trump already neutralized the Russia narrative. To the voters that matter, Russian hacking is a non-issue. They don’t care.
I expect Bernie to win Nevada tonight.
March 2, 2020 at 7:35 PM #815053svelteParticipantWow, quick pace of events this week.
Biden and Bloomberg are the only moderates left.
And support is just pouring in for Biden almost overnight.

I’m hoping that this has all happened in time for it to make a difference on Tuesday. I really like Biden.
Bernie not so much.
March 3, 2020 at 8:58 AM #815066FlyerInHiGuestButtigieg and Klobuchar are probably angling to be Biden’s running mates.
March 3, 2020 at 10:52 PM #815080FlyerInHiGuestSanders won strong in California.
I hope the folks who don’t like the liberal republic of california feel free to leave and stay away. This comment is aimed at those who believe that critics should just leave forthwith.

Oh my God, come back Joe for Super Tuesday.

Biden didn’t even show up in most states where Chairman Mao Sanders got his ass kicked. flabbergasted.
Svelte, have faith. Chairman Mao Sanders getting his ass kicked should restore faith that the Democrat party has not been completely taken over by the fringy alt-left. . Even in CA, where Chairman Mao Sanders’ camp spent a good amount of time and money, he didn’t nearly do as well as people thought he would. It wasn’t a “landslide” for Chairman Mao Sanders. At 50% reporting, he’s at 33%, where as Biden and Bloomberg are at 24% and 15% and warren at 12%, not the landslide dominating figures that many were predicting. Even in CA it’s a pretty big divide between moderates and fridgy left, which isn’t a surprise given that CA has one of the largest wealth inequality problems relative to other states, lol. That says a lot. Plenty of rational moderates left. Phew!
This battle is going to be painfully long, between two camps in the Democrat party that eventually will get so pissed off at each other, that I suspect will eventually cause a rift. I’m predicting if Chairman Mao Sanders loses, we might have a riot, lol.
Good job Joe! I approve! Might be a viable alternative moderate and a decent change of restoring some sanity in Washington.
March 4, 2020 at 7:48 AM #815085CoronitaParticipantI am Bernie, Bernie I am.
I do not like green eggs and Joe.
Green eggs and Joe, I don’t know.
Green eggs and Joe are my foe.I do not like him over here.
I do not like him over there.
I do not like him in Maine.
I do not like him when he campaigns. That Joe, that sleepy Joe…
Dealt my fringy progressives on Tuesday a deep blow.Whoa as me. Whoa as me.
As a fringy far lefty,
I might not get college tuition for free.I do not like green eggs and Joe.
I do not like eating green eggs and crow.March 4, 2020 at 8:37 AM #815092spdrunParticipantThe fascist Bloomberg just dropped like a wilted lily. Sanders and Warren are doing more than you think … they’re pushing the Democratic party to the left. Biden’s views…
* Public option (check)
* Free college (almost – for two years, then generous loan forgiveness and repayment capped at 5% of income)
* Federal decriminalization/descheduling of marijuana, and not interfering with state-level full legalization (check)
* Support of public transit and AMTRAK … there’s a reason why he’s called “Amtrak Joe” – he used to commute by train from Delaware to DC on the regular (check). His views have been forced to the left by Sanders and Warren. A moderate calling for all of this would have been unthinkable a few years ago. It would be brilliant if he picked Warren as a VP – he’d likely lock up many women’s votes by doing so, and when he’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a year or two down the line…
March 4, 2020 at 4:47 PM #815124FlyerInHiGuestLooks like tech workers really love Bernie.
The rednecks vote for Trump while techies vote Bernie.Bernie gets boost from tech counties

Biden’s views…
* Public option (check)
The public option was proposed by the Obama Administration – hardly far lefters – in 2009 and removed only after Lieberman threatened a filibuster. It was also proposed by Hillary in 2016. Again, I wouldn’t call her far left.
* Free college (almost – for two years, then generous loan forgiveness and repayment capped at 5% of income)
Having the first $4K of college tuition be free has been in the Democratic platform as far back as 2008…before that it was a little more vague and didn’t specify the exact amount.
Joe is offering loan forgive only for those who don’t make over $25K/yr for 20 years, or who are public servants. The Democratic party has offered to pay for the education of teachers since before 2008…Joe just broadened it a bit.
* Federal decriminalization/descheduling of marijuana, and not interfering with state-level full legalization (check)
In no way, shape, or form are Sanders or Warren responsible for the clear trend towards legalization. That’s absurd.
* Support of public transit and AMTRAK … there’s a reason why he’s called “Amtrak Joe” – he used to commute by train from Delaware to DC on the regular (check).
Joe helped Amtrack rebuild in 2009…

His views have been forced to the left by Sanders and Warren. A moderate calling for all of this would have been unthinkable a few years ago.
Not unthinkable and actually mostly done before, as I’ve pointed out above.

March 5, 2020 at 12:09 PM #815162FlyerInHiGuestspdrun, maybe you should be for UBI instead of expanding the social safety net.
You could take your UBI and spend it in Prague.
However, i’m sure UBI would for US residents only and there would be a limit on how long you could be away.
People who manage their money well could save the UBI and invest it to grow their wealth. With automation and AI, UBI will become necessary at some point. Or some kind of paid national service, perhaps. Andrew Yang will be seen as a visionary.

What is so funny about your whole approach to things Brian is that you really express Ayn Rand’s objectivist point of view. What’s good for me is good for society.
Yet you profess to be a Democrat.
