Participantsteak place / non-sushi
I can recommend sushi deli as a good cheap place, but there are actually a few of those around San Diego. As for non-sushi places in downtown that I recommend, there is a Brazilian steakhouse on 4th Avenue and Broadway called Rei De Gado’s. Although a bit pricey during the night, it is reasonable during lunch and has great tasting food. It is also an all-you-can-eat place.

ParticipantThe best Sushi place in San Diego is Sushi Ota but it is not located in downtown…also if you are not Japanese…well, let’s say hard to get a table.

ParticipantI have seen discrimination at other restaurants (like Shirahama the Sushi Nazi) but not at Ota. It’s hard to get a table at Sushi Ota because it’s so popular. I make a year of reservations (one per month) in advance, and I get served personally by Mr. Ota himself. I’ve been going there since 1993 and I’ve seen movie stars, football pros, and tv personalities there. My next reservation is Jan. 3 at 7:30!
