Arraya: It really is as simple as that to an intelligent person capable of reasoning outside of “left” or “right”.
Its sickening to see how a tragedy like this is already being twisted by both sides in the jockeying for advantage.
The shooter was a mentally ill young man. Reading through his utterances and rants, it becomes quickly apparent how sick he was. While I have a great deal of distaste for Sarah Palin and her “politics”, to lay this at her feet is disgusting.
I’m laying it at her feet. I don’t care who is disgusted by my actions.
I do agree that it’s not about left and right.
It’s about violence vs. nonviolence.
There is a growing movement in this country that consistently suggests violent revolution is necessary to effect change. The leadership really doesn’t want a revolution, but they use the suggestion of violence to win the loyalty of their constituency. They capitalize on the frustration of their followers by weaving the threat of violence throughout their message.
“This time we did not bring our guns.”
Although we will hear a boilerplate condemnation of this specific action, the tone and message of Sarah Palin and her ilk will not change.
More and more people today think that “guns are the answer.” Why? Because they are being told that. Why are they being told that? Because it gets votes.
Of course the guy was mentally ill. In a society teeming with guns, where “legitimate” political leaders are constantly hinting that violent revolution is a noble and inevitable course of action, some nutcase decides he has the right to start shooting politicians.
Is anybody surprised that it played out this way?
Any intelligent, responsible, person capable of reasoning outside of their simple-minded political mindset would understand that this tragedy was only a matter of time.
Today Sarah Palin is more concerned with political damage control than preventing the death of another child. That is what is truly disgusting.
