4plex: “Jekyll Island” is a great read and an educational one, too. A friend of mine in banking gave this book to me after an argument about the Federal Reserve Bank and it’s true function.
I always recommend Zinn’s “People’s History” as well.
Funny you mention Operation Paperclip. My dad was an aerospace engineer and we were talking about the moon landing for a report I was preparing for school. My dad said, “Make sure you tell them we couldn’t have done it without the Nazis” and I was aghast. Turns out, he was right. A good chunk of American capabilities were built around a group of former Nazi rocket scientists like Werner von Braun, some of whom were ardent Nazis, that the US had spirited out of Germany after the end of WWII.

some of the history I have read about Werner von Braun and his crew is that they were openly Nazis even after coming to America – had the Swastika on display, etc

These are very scary times…

I watched the video – it was posted back in 2008 before the election. (you say 2009 above).
I don’t see a comparison to Hitler youth or Nazis. The words to the song are only offensive if you think Obama is the anti-Christ. The words are about hope. (Be afraid!)
How is this different than children’s choirs in church or glee clubs? Because the song had a political basis? Would you have felt the same way if they’d been singing “This Land is Your Land”? That was extremely politcal at the time.
I guess I don’t get the reaction of creepiness and fear.
