I was inspired by this post and called Cox today. I am paying $170 for cable (no premium channels) with 1 DVR box, internet and a phone package with unlimited nationwide long distance. They would do NOTHING for me on the cable portion of my bill which is $84 even though I said I was going to cancel. I am seriously considering canceling cable

Absolutely..My philosophy these days. If the rest of the economic is going to make you feel pain via a deflation, dish some pain back out. Start calling up some of these companies you do business with and start pushing back by demanding more for your money.
BTW: can I ask why you have long distance? Do you make a lot of long distance calls? If you have a cell, why not just use it after peak hours? I’m just curious from a pricing perspective how these cable/phone companies are still making money on long distance service from residential customers.
