Garmin StreetPilot. I’ve actually had both the Garmin StreetPilot and Garmin NUVI – one for each of my cars. The NUVI is a lot smaller and slicker looking but it died and I returned it to Costco. The StreetPilot is clunky looking but it’s very easy to use and it’s been going strong for 3 years. Now I’ve downsized to one car so I only need one GPS anyway – the StreetPilot – it’s great. I recommend investing a few extra $ and getting a friction mount for it since you can put the whole assembly away in your glove box (if you have a large enough glove box) and leave no trace of a theft target for car prowlers. The suction mounts leave a ring on the windshield that is a dead giveaway to theives.

July 2, 2010 at 1:10 AM #574816stockstradrParticipantA few comments regarding Tom Tom (BAD) and Garmin (Good).
We have both a Tom Tom unit, and a Garmin, both with up to date maps.
We confirm what is widely discussed in GPS forums: Tom Tom maps are often very inaccurate for North America, but are far more accurate in Europe. This is due to Tom Tom sources its maps from a Europe focused map provider.
Garmin maps are generally far more accurate (than Tom Tom) for America’s region.
I would never again buy Tom Tom for use in America.

July 2, 2010 at 9:18 AM #574780briansd1GuestI agree that Tom Tom maps are not so good.
I have Tom Tom on my iPhone also and the directions are not as good as with Navigon. For example Tom Tom would tell you to exit and take surface streets when taking the freeway is better (yeah, I have the settings properly set for fastest route). I’ve put the two side by side and Navigon is superior.
Navigon AG is a German company, but I like their US product.
