Participant
I think it was a set up and we will not know why for awhile, but why would he give an interview to the Rolling Stone.
That was my first thought as well, but then I thought it’s also possible this whole thing was orchestrated by all involved parties. It was this line tucked in towards the end of the article that made me think that
– Even those closest to McChrystal know that the rising anti-war sentiment at home doesn’t begin to reflect how deeply f—ed up things are in Afghanistan. “If Americans pulled back and started paying attention to this war, it would become even less popular,” a senior adviser to McChrystal says.

ParticipantDear Obama:
You are a failure as a commander-in-chief. I have no respect for you. Check out the article in Rolling Stone. I dare you to fire me.
Mockingly,
General McChrystal
p.s. This is your chance to show everyone if you have any C. O. Jones or not. I’m guessing you don’t. If you do, then I’m glad to be away from this disaster. Win/win for me. Later, chump.
