a)Not, yet, though I was instructed “not to worry”, because I guess the people that want these phones have access to good hackers. Plus I’m sure the community will figure that out soon. Nice how the community works, isn’t it?
b)Simple. These phones will soon to be offered without the contract at $400 more, and I have confirmed from my sources inside this is the case as announced in the press releases. I am trying to find someone on the inside to sell me the phone earlier under this no-contract term , though I admit I haven’t been able to because the initial launch is tracked phone by phone, store by store. So it’s not that easy to do.
A friend overseas has already prepaid me $3.5kUSD to acquire 3 phones. Yes, i know that’s crazy to spend $1150 per phone, but like I said, it’s a status symbol there, and having no official sales there, even more exclusivity..Plus, these people aren’t exactly peasant farmers. Hence, some of these people think spending $2k on a handbag is a good deal. I guess this is what happens when we buy all that made in china crap from walmart.

I beleive you. Whenever I go overseas to developing countries, from Latin America, to Russia to Asia, anyone who’s anyone has a fancy phone.
I have an AT&T account and I’m going to try to get an iPhone for a friend in Asia, who has not asked, but whom I know would really appreciate that gift.
This afternoon, I went to the AT&T store and I ordered an iPhone that will be shipped to the store within 7 days. They will then email me to pick it up at the store where they will activate it.
The people who are waiting in line for 10 hours at the Apple store are nuts.
I know a guy here in San Diego who can unlock the iPhones. I still have to ask if he can do the new 3G.
I like technology but I only know enough to be dangerous. π
