Hopefully the dog’s coat isn’t the only factor on the dog you choose. A Wiemerarner, while sleek and athletic and graceful, is incredibly difficult to train (or at least it takes a very dedicated owner)… some dogs are good with kids, some are not, some are good with other animals, some are not… some need lots of space and some do not… we have an English Mastiff that needs much less space than a retriever (even though she is twice the size). She sleeps on the bed and my legs fall asleep everynight because of her heavy head on them… but she is good with other dogs, great with kids, and very protective of her family.
so coat is only one thing….. don’t forget to also research health issues with breed (like hip dysplasia, eye and skin problems, etc). It could save you much headache in the future, definately much more than a dirty couch.

I am feeling you. I am so sorry for your loss.
We had to euthanize our sweet kitty three weeks ago and I am still crying about her every once in a while.

That being said, our friends bought a laber-doodle from low-end breeder and the thing sheds worse than our chocolate lab. So I think that if you are planning on getting a dog that historically does not shed, make sure that you pay for a reputable breeder. Costs more, but if you are as opposed to shedding that much, paying now beats 10-14 years of a dog you don’t like.
