GuestYes, walter, family fun and good ethics to teach kids…. but not very efficient.
Your kids as wasting a lot of precious water playing with the water, washing their hands, etc..
With modern dishwashers, you don’t need to prewash the dishes before running the dishwasher (unless the food is very sticky on the dishes).
PS: I know a woman who handwashes her dishes and saves the water to water her plants… But that’s a lot of messy work.

Participantno only i get to operate the faucet. they just dry. im pretty sure im not wasting water. i believe i am better than the machine. kind of like john henry, the steel driving man, except i have a sponge and a quick hand on the faucet.
but it may be close:

also, i beleive handwashing makes you more sparing with stuff– reuse the same cup all day for instance, v. constantly using and loading up the dischwasher. obviously you could be equally sparing witht he ishwasher, but…
im sure this topic is as annoying as those PORTLANDIA clips. have those been discussed? man those are howlingly funny.

watch that and see if you can keep from chortling merrily…

Participantinteresting article, walter.
for me, it’s hard for me to get the sense that dishwashing is better because nowadays when I do dishes it’s typically one bowl, one spoon, and one pot/pan… and it’s a lot quicker to handwash it at that point! especially since sticky rice is sticky.
but if dishwashers (and i’m talking about one for more like $500ish) can sense the load and adjust water flow based on that, I could believe that.
