OT: digital camera recommendations, anyone?

I also am looking for a point and shoot to go along w/ my Canon DSLR and I’m leaning toward the Canon SD950IS. The IS stands for image stabilization and many people and review said it works really well. I’ve read many reviews and the recurring theme is the canon tends to have the best optics with the least noise. The 12MP also one of the highest you can get in a point and shoot right now. The form factor is very compact. You can always get the 12X optical zoom if you get the Canon S5 IS as well but you’ll be sacrificing size and since you already have a DSLR, I assume you want something compact.

Here are two fantastic cameras that are very good bets in the upper end of that price range. Both of these cameras are consistantly reviewed as being top cameras, and I also went through a very thorough process of elimination this year and ended up buying one for work (the Canon) and another for home (the Panasonic). The zoom on the Panasonic is great, but I also like the features on the Canon. Overall, I like the newer Panasonic slightly better. They sell it in a package at Costco for the high 300s. If I had to add a 3rd suggestion, it would be the Sony mentioned above. Check out these three cameras and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

I used to carry Canon Rebel but couldn’t do anything because of its bulkiness. Now I am a happy user of Canon 950 IS.

By the way, there is always ~ 1 second delay for any point-and-shoot camera, so we have to live with it.
