It’s great time to be alive in San Diego if you love quality cocktails and beer. Seems as if there’s a cocktail revival going on right now. Lots of restaurants priding themselves on well-made, classic, quality ingredients, attention to detail, etc. Gone are the days of cheap well drinks. Plenty of bartenders see the making of cocktails as both art and science, and anyone who has attempted to make a quality one will agree. Cocktails have a lot of history, and it’s good to see that history starting to be respected.

Tequila fiends should check out El Take It Easy in North Park. Their goal is to create classic Mexican cocktails from colonial days and back when Mexico was a playground for the rich and famous during prohibition.

Starlite on India overlooking the airport has amazing mules, along with a handful of other quality cocktails. Drink Menu

Riviera in La Mesa has some killer classics made the right way. Negroni, Sidecar, Manhattan, etc. menu

And don’t even get me started on beer. We’re very lucky here in Sandy Eggo.

Walter, I thought you quit the booze. You were my inspiration…I stopped my 2 (which was turning into 3) glass of wine per night habit partly b/c you got me thinking it would be a good idea.

Now I’m wanting a nice shaken, straight up margarita (and I definitely agree w/Rich that they can only be made w/fresh squeezed lime juice…I’ve been making basically his recipe for a few years now and it’s the only way to go). Nothing like that natural limey sweet-tart thing w/good tequila.

I really have to comment on the fact that SDDuuuude makes the greatest Magaritas I have ever had. Yes… Everyone know we are friends and that I hold him in the highest caliber… But really… He has convinced me that it is the stoicometeric (ms ?) mixture more than anything else. I have paid a lot of money for top shelf and never had anything as smooth as his…

He is also a champion at the lemon drop…

As for me I am continuing with the wine route, going so far as to order wine spectator… but I have recently been introduced to Tuaca. Love it. I didn’t even know it was italian! The old timers never had it on the shelf… Just annisette.

Anyway love the Tuaca maybe more of a cordial… Also big on Amerratto Sours as well…
