Yahoo video with Blodget on ACA…
My point all along was mentioned that: Do we really want a system where going without healthcare could result in parents of kids, etc…possibly being bankrupt because of an accident, etc…
I know for a fact that my irresponsible brother when he was younger could care less about healthcare and went without when it would be cheaper to just pay for healthcare than to deal with any possible catastrophic accidents. Since my parents already help him now, it would’ve been sad to see them spend hundreds of thousands on medical bills to save his life.
March 7, 2014 at 4:05 PM #771659allParticipantMy experience with ACA so far. The company decided to terminate the small group plan last Fall. Instead everyone signed up for insurance through Covered CA. The company is paying for it. I picked Blue Shield Platinum PPO plan (the only one among the gold/platinum plans accepted at Scripps as far as I could tell) and the mandatory dental for the kids. Covered CA is still showing both when I log in.
It took about a month to receive anything from the insurer, but I eventually received my account #. I log in and the kids dental is not listed. After spending almost 5 hour on hold I get to talk to a rep who tells me Covered CA did not pass along the dental info, I have to talk to them. After another couple of hours on hold I got to talk to a Covered CA rep who tells me they have no idea why that happened, but they will send the info again. It will take few weeks.
I received nothing, so after few weeks I log into the BSC portal to find out that the payment portal is no longer working (for me). I fill out the form and receive a call from a rep after less than an hour. The rep tells it is a technical issue and she can’t help me with it, but she can take the payment. She says I owe February and March. I tell her the corporate account has been charged for February and March. She checks another report and that report is showing no payment whatsoever, not even the initial payment the other report is showing. She has to check something with someone and she will call me back.March 7, 2014 at 4:15 PM #771660anParticipant[quote=all]My experience with ACA so far. I’m no democrat, never was, I don’t care for Obama or Republicans neither, but health care is something which is a big problem in America, especially if you’re one of the people who don’t work for a big company which provides insurance (we’re self employed)…We’re healthy too.
That said, the “IMPLEMENTATION” of ACA has been very problematic, for me included. I’ve already changed our plan since the one we initially picked didn’t have the doctor or facility we wanted even though we picked it specifically for that facility…(The doctor list was wrong).
I snail mailed my payment in as well as online probably 5 times initially.
You really need to manage it on your own since obviously, some worker really doesn’t give a shit for your case.
My payments were received though so I was good to go Jan 1st.
A word of advice also for people now using it. Check your Primary Care Physician and medical group since they picked one for us since I don’t think the ACA application lets you choose. You may want to change it if the plan/group you were assigned won’t let you see your regular doctor if they aren’t part of that medical group…etc…
I went in knowing there’d be MASSIVE problems and I saw a lot, but this or at least until we have single payer is still needed I feel.
Also, compared to my plan last year, we’re paying less even not counting subsidies and my kids are paying hundreds less for a better plan as well.

I would have to disagree. I would say that it will be seen as a good win for corporatocracy, particularly the insurance industry. If you look anywhere, they have their fingers in it, taking their slice. The amount they take may even be greater than the average per person tax rate. Insurance companies get their float as a non-interest bearing loan from their clients. A form of other peoples money – cheap. It does nothing to reduce the true cost, nor does it reduce the huge overcharging hospitals do. It just ‘entrenches’ it, making it harder to change later. -
