We always file a provisional first. You can err on the side of caution and put in way too much without any penalty.
Of course you can screw it up like anything else in this world, but if time is of the essence, I’d rather miss out on 1% of the details than risk that someone else files a similar application or that the idea gets leaked. And I’d hate to spend $15k and two months waiting on a fancy application that never pays itself back.

Again, not intending to give legal advice, but my concern with respect to provisional applications is always enablement. But it sounds like your lawyers are on top of this.
