I’m looking at $4200 for 16 SEER AC unit AND a 95% variable speed furnace.
You do know the UPS man doesn’t install it right
Huh? This is a quote I got from a licensed & bonded HVAC guy. He’s also throwing in a free t-stat and 2 free filter return register. If I buy the parts (furnace/ac/coil/thermostatic expansion valve) online, it would be $3457 shipped to my door. My contractor can get it for cheaper than that from his source. Cost for these parts is around $2900 for contractors. I was there when another contractor called his supplier for pricing.April 21, 2010 at 11:20 PM #541971anParticipant

No, you’re not…. you’re giving the house to your kids. π
$4,200 is a good price for a furnace and A/C. I would go for it.

It’s a high capacity, high CFM, fan that sucks the air up into the attic (which has vents.)
Sounds like you have a whole house fan. It’s a lot of work.
My cousin who lives in NY does the same thing but doesn’t have a fan. She draws the drapes on the sunny side of the house.
Her husband installs the storm windows in the winter and she changes the drapes. A lot of work but it might be fun and educational for the kids.
I’ll talk my dad into installing an attic fan on a thermostat to automatically draw the hot air out. It won’t work as well as your setup but it’s better than nothing.
I live in a apartment but I like home projects.
