OT: Above-ground Inflatable Ring Pool

When I lived in northern virginia near DC, my neighbor wanted to give his two kids a pool so he went and bought one just like the one you posted. His backyard was all grass and not entirely level so when he filled it the first time, it didnt fill level and kept spilling water out. He drained it and then decided to level his yard. He used dirt to level his yard and basically tossed dirt on his lawn until it was to a point where he thought it was level. I recommended a 2×4 platform but he thought the dirt was sufficient. He also barbecued in the middle of his yard instead of on the deck attached to the house. I asked him why and he said he once had an accident with the grill so he didnt want to burn his house down.

From the research I’ve done most people say they can last 2-3 seasons. I figure if I have to buy 1 every summer until my youngest is in college that’s only about $5K total, and I would only do that if I have fun with them.

One gallon of water weights 8.35 lbs.
That pool has a capacity of 5,455 gallons.
That’s 45,000 lbs or 22.5 tons of water.
That’s about the same as 8 Ford Expeditions.

Whatever you put it on, make sure it is designed for carrying that much weight, or at least is evenly supportive so it doesn’t sink more on one side than another.

Also, splashing occurs so water from the pool can soften the ground under the pool. Make sure it isn’t too close to a sloped hillside.

Yep, you can get a lot of fun/quality kid or family time with the thing relative to what other things cost. Someone gave us a smaller one of the same kind last year . The filter couldn’t keep up but it would be easy to make a better one if the same happens with the model in the link in your earlier post.
