Brian: Couple of things. Again, stop conflating radical Republicans with conservatives. They are not the same thing and its getting insulting, especially as you would seem intelligent enough (hopefully) to know better.
As to your contention that “conservatives” are getting up in arms over this, have you happened to check out WashPost, NYT and HuffPost today? No? Well, you should.
From HuffPost: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-robert-epstein/the-thank-god-youre-not-b_b_315715.html
From WashPost (Ruth Marcus of all people!): http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2009/10/a_nobel_for_a_good_two_weeks.html
From Michael Tomasky at The Guardian (so you can’t possibly argue “conservatism” or “right wing hating”): http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/michaeltomasky/2009/oct/09/nobel-peace-prize-obama
So, I’m curious, Brian, what say you about the Leftists groaning about this award?
Given that Yasir Arafat has also won a Nobel Peace Prize, I tend to discount the significance of the award somewhat (and please, for the love of God, don’t even attempt to argue that that vile piece of shit even remotely deserved it).
I think its fair to say that this award wasn’t given on the basis of who Obama is and what he has done (because his track record is inarguably brief after only nine months in office), but, rather, for who he isn’t (Dubya).
I’d say, let’s tamp down all the fervor and spittle inflected verbosity and stick to the facts, shall we?
And learn to differentiate between conservatives and… oh, never mind.
Brian?
Brian?
Nice job Allan. Nothing like facts to shut the liberals up.
Yes, I know better. But we live in a 2-party system. Until we have more parties, conservatives pretty much equal Republicans and vice versa.
Likewise, liberals are not all Democratic union activists.
I think that politicians (and voters) should transcend party politics, more like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I think that the Peace Prize was given to Obama for who he is, what he represents and what he’s done.
Bringing hope and aspirations (where there was only despair) to millions of people around the world is in itself a great achievement.
American leadership can do a lot of good.
As I said before, the award could just as well have been given to the American people for our commitment to peace to our efforts to make the world a better place. There was a time when Americans traveled the world and brought hopes and aspirations to where they went. Unfortunately, now our soldiers overseas are barricaded behind high walls. (Even during the Vietnam War our soldiers were well loved by the local kids and people. They could mingle with the local population.)
In my view, the committee awarded this prize to all idealistic and compassionate Americans. It’s a rebuke to the cynics, the war-mongers and the preventive strikers.
