LOL! Good one!
Obama is under no illusions that it is “…used to give momentum to a set of causes.” Barack Obama.
That’s what I thought. For good or for bad? Either way I don’t like that carrot in front of the donkey aspect of it. He may or may never even come close to having earned it. I hope he does.
I guess the Europeans have learned a thing or two about preemption. đ

October 9, 2009 at 3:08 PM #466378Allan from FallbrookParticipantBrian: Couple of things. Again, stop conflating radical Republicans with conservatives. They are not the same thing and its getting insulting, especially as you would seem intelligent enough (hopefully) to know better.
As to your contention that “conservatives” are getting up in arms over this, have you happened to check out WashPost, NYT and HuffPost today? No? Well, you should.
From HuffPost: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-robert-epstein/the-thank-god-youre-not-b_b_315715.html
From WashPost (Ruth Marcus of all people!): http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2009/10/a_nobel_for_a_good_two_weeks.html
From Michael Tomasky at The Guardian (so you can’t possibly argue “conservatism” or “right wing hating”): http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/michaeltomasky/2009/oct/09/nobel-peace-prize-obama
So, I’m curious, Brian, what say you about the Leftists groaning about this award?
Given that Yasir Arafat has also won a Nobel Peace Prize, I tend to discount the significance of the award somewhat (and please, for the love of God, don’t even attempt to argue that that vile piece of shit even remotely deserved it).
I think its fair to say that this award wasn’t given on the basis of who Obama is and what he has done (because his track record is inarguably brief after only nine months in office), but, rather, for who he isn’t (Dubya).
I’d say, let’s tamp down all the fervor and spittle inflected verbosity and stick to the facts, shall we?
And learn to differentiate between conservatives and… oh, never mind.

Letâs say youâre the President of the United States â okay? And youâre on the brink of escalating what promises to be a wider, more intense war than that which George W. Bush launched in Iraq. Youâve already sent in reinforcements, but youâre undecided about just how many more troops youâre going to send to Afghanistan â could be 20,000, could be 40,000, or even 60,000. But, in any case, youâve ruled out withdrawal and diplomacy: the only option you have left is more war.
In addition, youâre moving â slowly but surely â toward full-scale involvement in Pakistan, where your drones are daily wreaking death and destruction on innocent civilians, and destabilizing a government that is increasingly hostile to your machinations â even though youâre bribing them with billions that never reach their ostensible beneficiaries and only serve to fatten the purses of your Pakistani sock-puppets.
On top of that, youâve just told the Palestinians that they must live with Israeli âsettlementsâ and forced the UN to ignore an official report detailing the killing of thousands of innocent men, women, and children by IDF forces armed by the US.
On top of that, youâre pushing through Congress a record military spending bill that keeps the US spending more than the top 45 nations on earth combined on weapons and methods of war.
snip
And as if to underscore the fact that we are still living in the world we woke up to on September 11, 2001, a top official of the Democratic National Committee â communications director Brad Woodhouse â has issued the following statement in response to guffaws from the peanut gallery:
âThe Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists â the Taliban and Hamas this morning â in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize.â
As Obama prepares for war, and yet more war, anyone who questions this is a terrorist â and peace be with you, my son.
