Funny thing about 2 year-olds: they’re mystically and irresistibly drawn to entertainment electronics. When my youngest was two, he broke our turntable, which forced us to go and invest in a CD player (which tells you how advanced in age I am).
We have a second home in a rural area to which we plan to retire (should that ever again be possible in our culture). We visit once or twice a month, and made a conscious decision not to get a dish. We’re doing a lot more reading, which we both love to do, when we’re down there. For whatever reason, when I’m back home, I’ll continue to sit and watch absolute crap when there’s nothing of value on cable. I mean shows like “Bridezillas” and “Housewives of OC” – real sludge at the bottom of the barrel stuff.
As for SN, i admire her skills, but it’s sooo obvious that most of the parents aren’t getting it at all. But i have to admit, the Daniels episode was really out there. I realize that they edit this stuff, but it was surreal. It was like Lisa had no clue where the kids were coming from, and was at a total loss as to what to do with them. Some psych grad student could develop a helluva PhD dissertation from a few months with that family. Actually, I’m surprised Lisa, in her quest to get her kids “noticed” (as per her mySpace page), has not signed them up for Dr. Phil yet. Or maybe she tried, and he just decided that she was beyond his skill set.

January 11, 2010 at 12:26 AM #500909eavesdropperParticipantOh, forgot to mention that I came upon an data mining/selling website that indicated whoever was living at the Daniels’ Sherry Lane address applied for and received a Small Business Administration-backed loan in January of 2008. The business name listed was American Patriot Insurance Services, which does have a product line for the construction industry. Only thing is, that’s the name of the parent corporation which is based in Illinois. I’m assuming that Steve’s start-up company (mentioned in the NTC article) was selling that company’s line, but I have no idea why his firm’s name wouldn’t be on the loan.
At any rate, I haven’t been able to find *any* mention of Steve Daniels and insurance anywhere. You’d think if he worked in the field for several years, and then opened his own office that did well enough to pay him a salary of $15k/month, there’d be something somewhere on the WWW or telephone records. But I came up empty-handed. No address. No phone number. No advertising. No business publication articles. No referrals. Zip. Nada.
I’m not saying that the guy doesn’t have an insurance business. But it’s easy to see why it may not be doing well.

Someone asked a few days back about the status of the LaCresta house. The address is 19141 Avenida de Louisa in Murrieta. The house was repossessed by the lender a while back, and is currrently on the market for – try not to get yourself too excited – under a million dollars!

Funny thing. When you compare the pictures on the MLS listing with the ones that were on Lisa’s mySpace page, the kitchen looks different. As in, most of the major appliances were removed before it went on the market. I hope that this means that Steve and Lisa will not have to be enduring life without their capp-coffee machine and their pizza oven. I’ve had many a sleepless night agonizing over that possibility.
