Thanks all. How much prep did you guys do on your own? Pack your own boxes and let them do just the big stuff or did they pack boxes also?
Packed all of our own stuff
You should get a quote for doing it both ways.
With the amount of time, energy, & money it can take getting boxes, tape, packing paper, etc and then packing, it can be worth it to have the movers do it all.
When I used Sullivan for a local move I think it was 3 guys and a truck for $130/hr with a 4 hour minimum. Also, however long it takes to drive from your current residence to your new home, that time will be doubled (don’t ask me, standard for all movers in southern california)
That move came in at exactly 4 hours

June 15, 2009 at 4:20 PM #416574ocrenterParticipantyup, we packed our own boxes. we got an estimate from one of those professional companies that pack everything in the past and it was well over $5000. you do your own packing and have everything ready for the movers and that cost drops down to ~$500.

I think it’s called hostage freight or something like that…
get a full contract up front, no estimates which can be changed.
