If we learned anything from the housing bubble mess, it’s to take what the mainstream media has to say with a grain of salt and to think for yourself. I’ve seen article and websites that say it doesn’t make sense to buy but it doesn’t take into account the equity and appreciation of the home. On the other hand its common to hear that you are throwing away money when renting. I simply just do the math to see what makes sense. Of course the tricky part is to guess some type of appreciation range but at least it gives you some type of idea. Paying attention to market trends provided on websites like this helps make an educated guess.

Wives value security most. Men marry for looks. Women marry for security. Security equals money… but…
A house equals security in the sense that it’s immovable. The husband can’t disappear with it and leave her high and dry.
“Community and roots” and kids are security in the sense that they are ties that bind.
A house is security in the sense that there’s always a “honey do” list. The husband can’t go off and hang out with his buddies when there are flowers to plant, the lawn the mow, the room to paint, things to shop for, etc…[/quote]
Brian,
Do you really believe all the tripe you post about women, or are you trolling? π
Just so you know, the bubble blogs, this one included, are populated largely by women (perhaps 50% or so). Many of us were the ones who had to convince our husbands to rent instead of buy. You have some funny notions about women, men, and relationships.
