Blistering critique sounds like a bad review of a netflix movie.
Need catchphases.

Wait…I lost interest. Forget the whole venture

I have friends at both extremes. I have to say those at the far right are a little harder to take simply because they speak more harshly. But the far left is just as extreme.
I tilt left myself so I understand the left better. But I grew up in a far right household and I have to say my dad’s intentions were good. As are a lot of the folks on the right. it’s just they see things from a totally different perspective.
Maybe it’s walk a mile in my shoes thing, I don’t know. I’ll never be smart enough to know why the world is the way it is. I’ve made peace with that.
I don’t think we would have ever had a Trump had we not had an Obama. I really can’t figure out what set the right off so bad about Obama. All I can figure is that he was black. And just half black at that – maybe the 1/2 thing is the real reason? Other than that, I really don’t have a good explanation. (not that I think that’s a good reason, it’s just one that may explain their reaction)

Good points.
I think, for me, I feel really frightened and like throwing up or lashing out whenever I hear the word Jesus or Christian nation.
Really–makes my skin crawl. Makes me afraid. Makes me want the public speaker TO SHUT UP, generally…however …
One thing I like about trump is he makes christianity sound absurd whenever he talks about it. I wish he would talk about religion MORE.
I have no bone to pick with actual jesus or any teaching–just with literally anyone who politically talks about christianity. It seems self evident to me it should never be talked about. But obviously I’m wrong.
If the right would just stop with the jesus shit, I’d probably tilt right.
Honestly. Financially, I should be an old conservative Republican guy. I guess a lot of old jews just go with the Republican tax program.
I dont really, when I think about, care too much about the financial well being of other Americans than me. I’d be more than happy not to share with them.
But I was bred from a very young age by very sincere, paranoid, neurotic people…do not trust the gentiles. They do not mean well. Look for the exits when they start shouting about jesus.
We are not the type of jews who favor israel over anything. We are the old fashioned post holocaust socialist leaning jews. Old New Yorky type jews that read communist newspapers and protested for the Negro Cause back when that kinda shit was actually dangerous.
I’m not sure there are many anymore. We stopped breeding. We intermarried.
Only the orthodox stuck with the religious program. Israel uber alles.man, I cant stand israel either. And frankly, most liberal jews irritate the hell out of me.
The only group I can stand lately are the Buddhists.
All these bible thumping rightwingers, seems like they’ve called a temporary truce on jew hating because they like Israel lately.
But in my DNA, my cells know. They would love to kill jews as soon as the coast is clear. That’s our history. Get the jew. Kill it. In jesus’ name, amen.
Better, safer to go with an inclusive left than those right wing Christian’s with guns. They will never accept you. They think you are evil.
All this is my subconscious thought process, obviously may or may not be connected to any current reality.
But political leanings are probably far more connected to tribalism and subconscious leanings than logical thought processes.
I cant fault the right wingers…they were bred as they were bred. Black people are dangerous, maybe? Obama is an elitist affirmative action weakling who who took a white guys spot at Harvard and is golfing when he should be working, a typical lazy African american who wants to take my health care and give it to welfarians. It’s not even clear where he was born.
They are no more or less nutty than me. We are all raised to think our reality is reality.
However, they are heavily armed.
April 24, 2020 at 6:48 AM #816822svelteParticipantScaredy, I totally agree with Brian. Your posts are a joy to read. Really. Some day I hope your thoughts make it to print.
I too am flabberghasted by religion and Christians in particular. It makes me fear my fellow man how so many people can follow such an insane concept.
It may interest you to know that while in college my roommate insisted on keeping a buddha on our coffee table. We had fish tanks on both end tables, an “underwater candle” on the lower part of the coffee table, and a buddha on top of the coffee table. Coffee table. What a weird term. Haven’t heard it for years. Man am i old. I rather enjoyed looking at the fat smiling man. As did our guests.
I also worked manual labor a couple of summers when I was living with my future wife. Had a helluva tan. And a few of the folks who dug trenches with me were Mormon. I loved those people. Very kind and not preachy.
In the last decade we’ve become good friends with some Jews. Another group of very warm people – nonjudgmental. They were on our “wild side”. Very open minded. Very smart. Very rich. They accepted us for who we are – warts and all.
Life is such a trip. We’re enjoying the ride. Isolation, not so much.
April 24, 2020 at 7:45 AM #816823scaredyclassicParticipantI never wear t shirts with any kind of writing on them for fear of setting some nut off, but HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY, like xmas ties, would be a nice seasonal item.
. It’s a phrase that may have only been ever uttered by trump and is stunningly perfect in its ignorance. Or maybe he meant, good riddance, glad they crucified the socialist longhaired freak.
Trump knows enough about jews to not say HAPPY YOM KIPPUR,
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/presidential-message-yom-kippur-2019/
Or this solemn, sensitive tweet featuring a respectful trump in a yarmulke…
https://mobile.twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/913888647631577088
but thinks christianity is such a joke he says happy jesus killing day. Definitely trolling Team Jesus. It’s not ignorance…hes gotta be fucking with them. And yet, the jesus team is still team trump.
Evangelicals love trump. I dont think its just over abortion. I think they subconsciously want end times, and this is their man.
.after all, the bible is largely silent on abortion, except Torah, where causing miscarriages is punishable by fine. Not death, as opposed to murders, which seems to imply abortions not too bad. The new testament, strangely silent. Nothing. No quotes.
The text of the bible is definitely long enough that G-d couldve spared one line to clarify what THOU SHALT NOT KILL means…for instance obviously ok to kill in war, self defense and capital punishment, but not tiny baby embryos or fetuses. One line. All that endless, meaningless useless clarification, unreadable nonsense, and yet one line wouldve been so helpful in providing thumbs up for the anti abortionists theological position.
Jesus had bigger fish to fry, apparently, like caring for those here.
And the turn the other cheek language almost seems like a clarification of no killing in self defense.
Happy good friday, though, is classic. I thought, if the evangelicals still love him, he could piss on a virgin Mary statue, they wouldnt care.
Personally I am strongly opposed to end times. I dont trust anyone who thinks theres pros and cons to end timess. end times, all bad.
Nothing good about it.

The “sea of despair” causes people to cling to religion, guns and culture.

May 10, 2020 at 11:29 AM #817138FlyerInHiGuestRemember the death panels of Obama Care?
A symmetrical response from the left would be “Covid death panels” today. There are actual death all over. The left is so lame and not riled up enough. That’s why Republicans call liberals weak tree huggers, etc. it’s true, liberals are weaker, nicer people. A hard hitting left wing answer to Fox would not find an audience and advertisers.
