Participant[quote=WaitingToExhale]What would the ballpark cost for a total remodel for a 1970’s 2000 sqft house be? How much time would it take? I understand that these are rather general questions, but I’m just trying to get a general idea of how much of a “discount” would be appropriate if a place needed a total remodel.

This is a very general question. What are you remodeling? Kitchen/bath/bedroom/living area/flooring/etc? If you specifically want only the cost of a kitchen remodel, then it really depends on the size of the kitchen, not the house. Once you figure that out, the price are still all over the map, depending on how much you want to spend. You can spend as little as $5k to do updating and as much as, if not more than, $100k if you go w/ all exotic materials. A complete gut and redo of a kitchen from floor to ceiling and above average materials will probably run you at least $30k.June 4, 2009 at 10:18 AM #410601an

ParticipantI was wondering about the whole house, not just the kitchen. Sorry about the ambiguity. I suspected the question might be too general, but I’m trying to determine how much cash it would take to put into the house + asking price vs. typical cost in the area.
Note that I have no clue, here, just thinking about the options as I look at homes.

I own http://www.totalkitchenstore.comWe sell high quality stuff at wholesale prices. Sure, I have personal interest in the issue, but as someone who’s been in this industry for a long time, I would encourage anyone considering a remodel to buy cabinetry that comes ready to install, not ready to assemble.

I was looking at the “Virtual Kitchen Showroom”. I don’t see a price for the kitchen counters. Is that not included in the total price ?
