jeeman, I watched the videos.
I agree that limiting sugar is a key element of eating well. No processed sugar of any kind for me. I don’t even have sugar at home.
That’s why it’s important to eat low glycemic index foods that don’t give you “sugar rushes”.
I would however not cut out the fresh fruits because they contain oxidants and nutrition (which you need for health and longevity). I would cut out the carb and processed items (cookies, cakes and the like).
Plain store bought yogurt or home make yogurt is fine. No flavored/sugared yogurt.
Losing weight is one thing, and a great start.
Living healthy and a long time means eating natural, non-processed food.

July 29, 2010 at 7:42 PM #584157CardiffBaseballParticipantI know I said this way back but if anyone is worried about whether eating high fat causes you to be fat or whether high cholesterol foods cause high cholesterol, read Gary Taubes Good Calories, Bad Calories. It as is thoroughly researched a book on myths about foods as I’ve read. Guys like Atkins, had a program to sell, (nothing wrong with that) but covered the detail rather lightly allowing the occasional Ornish type follower to look down their nose at anyone who mentions Atkins. Taubes stuff does a great job exposing the history of the politically driven science that led to the explosion of refined carb production which… has also led to the growth in belly fat.
He’s had some fantastic stuff on youtube as well.

He does recommend no fruit while cutting. But when you reach your goal, he says to add back in 2 fresh fruits a day.
Back in the “caveman” days, eating fruit was a rare delicacy because they really only grow well in the tropics. Yes, they are healthy for you, but yes, they will spike your insulin and cause your system to be signaled to gain weight. Most nutrients can also be had through vegetables.
I see both sides of the issue, and I looooove fruit. But for now, I’ve cut it out while I try to get my six-pack. π
