I see that California is going to receive 80 BILLION dollars for Homeland Security from the Feds. Now the state deficit is 40 billion at last glance. What do you think the odds are that this is a coincidence? Is that all for FY10? The piece does not say what CA has received in previous years, but it does say that this amount is much more than normal. The Feds do not want to look like they are bailing out CA, but this seems pretty much like a backdoor bailout to me.
On a related note, what happens in two weeks when FY09 ends without a budget? I am surprised it is not getting more ink. Seems like a watershed event is coming and our 15 minute CNN world is glossing over it.
