i say make it a mandatory house-forfeiture from owner and bank to govt, plus 50,000 civil fine, audit 1/10 randomly, see who feels lucky, might pay for the credit. put burden on bank to confirm dating.

June 18, 2010 at 9:51 AM #567398HuckleberryParticipantConsidering the new mortgage fraud crackdown by the FBI, and any other federal and private initiatives, I would be VERY hesitant to try “fudging” documents for an 8K gain…

June 18, 2010 at 1:41 PM #567503DWCAPParticipantmaybe the sane people are hesitant about fudging the numbers, but that doesnt mean it isnt happening. I think alot of people think they can get away with it, exactly because it is ‘only 8k’.
And it is happening right here in San Diego:“Schahrzad Berkland, an agent for Fidelity Pacific Real Estate in San Diego, who helps produce analyses of that market, found that the number of homes listed as pending sales agreed upon in April continued to rise over the past few weeks. Normally, that number should decline as some deals fall through. Ms. Berkland thinks some buyers are backdating to April.”

I hope the IRS goes after all of them and the people who made it happen.
