ParticipantBeing a radical computer guy, I’ve been disappointed for years over home automation…. It’s hugely expensive for what you get, it never actually works as promised, and it usually just complicates your life…
I decided that a few years ago I would develop a system which responded to my voice commands (like the Enterprise!), but after examining the market and realizing that it’s a tiny tiny market mostly dominated by insanely overpriced vendors (mostly on the installation and service) that it would never amount to more than a rich mans toy (a toy that never gets used).
Of course some stuff like automatic blinds (sometimes), and theater controls are awesome, but the rest of it doesn’t ever seem to get used – of course I could be wrong.
Microsoft showed off the home automation house years ago and quickly exited it…
