I don’t really care what the arguments for or against are, I have my own theory. I like my guns, I’m safe and experienced with them. I enjoy my right to have them, but I am not comfortable with other people’s rights to have them. 75% of the people I know shouldn’t be alowed to have them. 25% of the people I know should be allowed to have them. The problem is that the 25% I deem qualified for the most part don’t have them and those that do are in the 75% I object to.
Until someone comes up with a proposal that says I get to keep mine and I get to decide who all the other gun owners are, mark me down for “undecided.”

May 26, 2011 at 12:29 AM #698895temeculaguyParticipantI just thought of a way to do it, we can model it after most HOA’s.
If I want to put in some front yard hardscape, I need to notify my immediate neighbors. The two on the sides and the three directly across the street. They have a finite time to object to the HOA if they think I’m nuts because my plan is to have some giant statue peeing into a bird bath or something. Then the HOA gets to hear the complaints, see for themselves and they decide if they will allow me to proceed.
But we include not only neighbors, but friends, co-workers, relatives and lets say the last three people you’ve slept with. If everybody is cool with it, you get a gun. I just don’t have the time to be the person that decides for all 300+ million americans, I need help. Even with the lakers out of the playoffs, I can barely keep up with HBO’s game of thrones (which is awesome) and do everything else, I can’t take on any additional responsibilites at this time.

Actually, foreigners may own weapons in Switzerland as long as they have a residence permit and are not from countries on a “prohibited” list. More details here. What isn’t mentioned in the article is that I think this is the long-term permit, which takes 12 years to get. But it is possible for foreigners to have guns there.
True that they don’t have gangs and the sorts of low-life we have here. But again, that has nothing to do with guns and everything to do with who we are as a culture. Just like “Bowling With Columbine” tried to say.
