it is VERY BAD to help delinquent homeowners. These people have already proved that they are fiscally irresponsible. People who do this usually have a pattern of this type of behavior. Giving them an easy fix is moral hazard and only encourages this kind of behavior because it sends a message that running up huge bills and then crying crocodile tears solves everything!
People have to learn the hard way that there are consequences for bad decisions! Foreclosure isn’t forever, you can lose your home, learn valuable lessons, rent for a while and purchase again in a few years. Hopefully, the lessons learned will make for much wiser decisions.
